The thread that go so many scared
A lot of people got confused by this thread on twitter, myself inclusive. I Saw comments that suggested this was Astral projection, some claimed it was lucid dream but my findings gave me another word for it “out-of-body experience (OBE)”
I remember in 2019 hmmm when my spirit used to leave my body while I’m asleep and I’ll be looking at the my vessel sleeping. I’ll cry and beg God to give me another chance to enter it back and live. Bruhhh, scary times 🙁

Is it a real thing, is it imagination or jut some dream? Well, we may never know but thank God a million times for google, I’m about to know the differences, similarities and how they work.
I once went through a heavy research on Astral projection after seeing it first in the series ‘Behind her eyes’ but I was lost and convinced because at the end of the day,Psychiatrist Roxanna Namavar, D.O. stated that we may never know for sure if it’s a real thing, in her words “I don’t think you can prove or disprove astral projection or out-of-body experiences,” Whether you choose to believe it or not, astral projection it boils down to your own experiences and beliefs in the potential of human consciousness.
This is an intentional out-of body experience in which the subtle body travels outside the physical body at the impulse of the individual. In layman’s term it is intentional effort to send your consciousness from your body meaning consciousness is traveling out of your body toward a spiritual plane or dimension.
According to Wikipedia, Astral projection (or astral travel), is a term used in esotericism to describe an intentional out-of-body experience that assumes the existence of a soul called an “astral body” that is separate from the physical body and capable of travelling outside it throughout the universe.
This is simply taking a vacation to Abuja (the astral world) without even leaving your home while your body is in Lagos flood, you only just have to leave your body.
It happens when the consciousness is sent to the astral form of this world (i.e., the astral representation of Kaduana, New York, France, etc.) It usually similarities, with its real-world counterparts. It means if you can harness this power, you could travel anywhere your imagination desires. So, does that mean astral projection is a bit our imagination?
Some believe that Astra projection is very possible as a spiritual phenomenon while some think it is not and cannot be backed up by science. For research purposes Eben Alexander, M.D., a neurosurgeon, was the subject of research on out-of-body experiences and astral projection in 2008. After the research an inexplicable brain infection left Alexander in a weeklong coma but when he awoke, he claimed to have had profound memories of a journey deep into another realm. Well, since then, he’s dedicated his life to exploring the mysteries of human consciousness. His near-death experience did cause Alexander to think that astral projection was possible. He says that he now uses binaural beats-based audio recordings to travel beyond the five senses and explore nonphysical aspects of consciousness.
Out-of-body experience (OBE).
Unlike Astra projection, out-of-body experience is a sensation of your consciousness leaving your body, you feel your spirit or soul has left their physical body. You begin to view the world around or physical body from a vantage point. simply put, you may feel as if you’re outside yourself, looking at your body from another perspective.
But how does it OBE feel like? According to people who’ve experienced them,
- a feeling of floating outside your body
- an altered perception of the world, such as looking down from a height
- the feeling that you’re looking down at yourself from above
- a sense that what’s happening is very real
You see how this is similar to the stories from the thread?
OBE can happen without warning and usually don’t last for very long and they may happen more frequently for people with neurological condition, such as epilepsy but for many people, an OBE will happen very rarely, maybe only once in a lifetime.
What are the similarities or differences?
Some refer to OBEs as astral projections but with evident differences.
Astral projection usually involves an intentional effort to send your consciousness from your body toward a spiritual plane or dimension.
OBE, on the other hand, is unplanned and rather than traveling, your consciousness simply floats or hover above your physical body.
OBEs are largely recognized within the medical community and have been the subject of many studies, Astral projection, however, is considered to be a spiritual practice.
What can cause an out-of-body experience?
Stress or trauma
Medication and drugs
hypnosis or meditative trance
dehydration or extreme physical activity
“A lucid dream is defined as a dream during which dreamers, while dreaming, are aware they are dreaming,” explained a specialist.
It occurs when a person is asleep but aware that they are dreaming, they can take control of their dream’s narrative to some degree, essentially guiding and directing the course of their dream. Like most dreams lucid dreaming occur during sleep, for some it occurs spontaneously but others train themselves to start dreaming lucidly.
If you have started dreaming and suddenly realized that you were in a dream or managed to gain control over your dream narrative then you have experienced what is called lucid dreaming.
The movie Inception explains it much better where the characters are able to control the shape and content of their dreams, as well as the dreams of others.
To know if you’ve had a lucid dream
- You were aware that you were asleep and dreaming.
- Your dream was very vivid.
- You were able to exert some degree of control over the events or scenery in your dream.
- Your emotions were very intense.
